Peter and the Wolf

My main purpose in posting this is so that I will have it handy.


I really like the story of Peter and the Wolf. One, I like Russian music, but I love how Prokofiev tells the story musically. I enjoy the musical conversations. I'm not fond of the fact that Peter ignore his Grandfather's warning, but the rest is great.

Well several years ago I found this copy of the story in book form by Vladimir Vagin at the library. I think I have mentioned before that I am rather particular in my art appreciation. I love Vladimir Vagin's art work. It is beautiful and I am always amazed a the detail. We checked it out from the library so many times it was laughable. I finally bought it. It is one of the kids's most asked for books at reading time. At the end of the book, Vagin included the musical themes of each character, and I always have to sing those too. So they know the story, they are familiar with the toons, but they don't get to hear the whole thing very often. Hence this link with Leonard Berstein and the New York Philharmonic.

Ever sense I saw this one, I have become quite the Jon Schmidt fan. There is another link that would actually embed, but it doesn't show them playing it. I like this one better - you can just tell those guys are having SO MUCH FUN!! I had heard the Taylor Swift song before, but it never struck me till I heard this arrangement.

If I had a million dollars

I know this is an old song, but my family has recently discovered it. Jonny and Steven can both play it on the guitar and everyone joins in the singing. It's all pretty amusing!!

If I had a million dollars, I sure wouldn't spend it this way; I would be way smarter.

My favorite silly song

I love this song!!

I love beautiful music with power. For me this song fits this criteria. It has a sweetness to it, but is very powerful. As a bonus, it is right in my singing range. I am a strong alto, so most songs are either too high or too low. This one is perfect; he must be a baritone. I still have not yet figured out how long I can listen to it before I get tired of it.
